TAE Technologies on Thursday announced a surprise tie-up with Trump Media and Technology Group, the company behind Truth Social, the US president's social media site. Mr Trump is TMTG's biggest shareholder and will own around a fifth of the combined company. The deal comes just two weeks after TAE and the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) unveiled a joint venture that will see £5.6m of British taxpayer cash invested in the project. The merger is highly unconventional. TAE is a start-up seeking to revolutionise clean energy by harnessing the reaction that powers the sun. TMTG, meanwhile, runs Mr Trump's social network and has put billions into Bitcoin The combination may create uncomfortable questions for the Government about whether officials knew of the deal with Mr Trump. Critics of the president have said that foreign governments have sought to garner influence through deals tied to his business interests.
