Dollar Tree ( DLTR ) is down 21% YTD but Credit Suisse's Judah Frommer thinks investors should stick with the stock, reiterating an Outperform rating and raising his price target to $99 from $93, saying DLTR could sell the Family Dollar business. DLTR has not said it wanted to sell the unit, but Frommer feels the perceived ability to monetize Family Dollar should bolster its valuation, along with his belief that it will see a near-term improvement in operations. Dollar General ( DG ) unsuccessfully tried to bid for Family Dollar in 2014, but Frommer still likes the synergies and strategic rationale for DG to make another try for the business. The strategic alternatives available to Dollar Tree are becoming increasingly clear to investors, Frommer writes, as is the peer-lagging multiple being placed on the Family Dollar business.
