Darden Restaurants Inc.'s sales exceeded the company's own expectations for its second fiscal quarter, ended Nov. 23, as its performance surpassed the overall casual-dining segment in which it operates. “Each of our segments delivered positive same-restaurant sales,” chief executive officer Rick Cardenas said in a conference call discussing the results on Thursday before market. The parent company of Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and nine other concepts saw a sales increase of 7.3 % to $3.1 billion. Overall same-store sales were up by 4.3%, compared to Black Box Intelligence's benchmark of 1.3%. LongHorn Steakhouse focuses on quality That was led by 601-unit LongHorn Steakhouse, which saw a 5.9% increase in comps as well as improved customer satisfaction scores.
