Diana Shipping ( NYSE:DSX ) has raised its takeover offer for dry bulk peer Genco Shipping & Trading ( NYSE:GNK ), signaling a renewed push to consolidate in the sector as the company moves to sweeten terms and line up financing. The shipping company said it is now offering $23.50 per share in cash for the remaining Genco shares it does not already own. Diana Shipping, which currently holds roughly 14.8% of Genco's outstanding shares, said the revised proposal represents a 31% premium to Genco's undisturbed closing share price on November 21, the day before Diana first approached the company with an acquisition proposal.
