ETS Considers Selling GRE And TOEFL As Testing Demand Evolves [Forbes]

AFP via Getty Images Educational Testing Service, the nonprofit organization that administers the Graduate Record Examination and the TOEFL English-proficiency test, has been holding discussions about selling the exams or bringing in strategic investors, according to a Wall Street Journal report . The talks come as changes in graduate admissions practices and falling international student numbers to the U.S. limit test taker demand after decades of growth. Many universities have moved away from requiring standardized tests for graduate admissions, while visa uncertainty, rising tuition costs and uncertain post-study work prospects have dampened international interest in U.S. graduate programs. Together, those shifts have narrowed the pipeline of applicants who traditionally sat for exams such as the GRE and TOEFL.
