Penn State has reportedly hired Matt Campbell, head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones , to be the next head coach of the Nittany Lions . Campbell replaces James Franklin, who was relieved of his duties as head coach in Happy Valley in the middle of the season following a disappointing start to what was supposed to be a promising season with national championship aspirations. Campbell heads to Penn State following a well-regarded 10-year run with Iowa State. Despite typically operating a football prorgam at a deficit on an annual basis, Campbell has the Cyclones experiencing one of the best three-year runs in program history. It would be unwise to compare Campbell's record to Penn State's former head coach without keeping the wide gap in financial support and budge
