San Jose-based eBay will cut 800 jobs, or 6% of its workforce, days after announcing a $1.2 billion deal to acquire Depop from Etsy. (eBay) eBay Inc. said Thursday that it will lay off about 800 employees, roughly 6% of its workforce, marking the latest round of job cuts at the longtime Silicon Valley tech company. The San Jose e-commerce giant announced the layoffs a week after revealing plans to acquire Depop , a secondhand fashion app owned by Etsy, for $1.2 billion in cash. "We are taking steps to reinvest across our business and align our structure with our strategic priorities, which will affect certain roles across our workforce," an eBay spokesperson said in a statement. "We are grateful for the contributions of the employees impacted and are committed to supporting them with care and respect." The cuts will affect teams across the company and reflect changes to its operating model, including areas of duplication and alignment with future priorities, the company said.
