Shares of EBay Inc. rallied 1.9% in premarket trading Friday, after Stifel Nicolaus analyst Scott Devitt turned bullish on the e-commerce company, as retail closures resulting from the coronavirus pandemic has shifted a "substantial portion" of consumer spending online. Devitt raised his rating to buy, after being at hold since October 2018, and lifted his price target to $45 from $40. He said third-party data shows that e-commerce sales have accelerated "dramatically" in March with strong momentum continuing in April. "EBay is a direct beneficiary of the current landscape and we see upside to near-term topline results as competing platforms temporarily prioritize food and household necessities and consumer demand for items desired for work and education in the home inflect higher," Devitt wrote in a note to clients.
