TSX snaps 11-day winning streak while U.S. stock market hit new highs TORONTO -- Canada's main stock index snapped an 11-day winning streak Monday while U.S. stock markets inched up to new highs. The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 3.36 points from its record high to close at 17,025.11, the first time it has closed down since Oct. 31. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 31.33 points at 28,036.22. The S&P 500 index was up 1.57 points at 3,122.03, while the Nasdaq composite was up 9.11 points at 8,549.94. Each of the U.S. markets set new record closings after even higher intraday trading. "While we continue to get some trade information related to the latest negotiations with U.S. and China dribbling out, I think overall today the markets are rather directionless because there's not a whole lot of data to swing sentiment one way or another," said Craig Fehr, Canadian markets strategist at Edward Jones.
