European stocks trade lower in first opportunity to react to start of Trump impeachment process Stocks in Europe traded lower on Wednesday amid the political cloud surrounding President Trump ahead of key trade talks between the U.S. and China. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry after European markets had closed. “The political turmoil around Donald Trump’s official impeachment inquiry, combined to rising fears of a no agreement with China in October trade talks turned the risk sentiment off across the global markets,” said Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior market analyst at London Capital Group. One piece of good news on the trade front, however, came as China said it was preparing to buy more U.S. pork. The Stoxx Europe 600 SXXP, -1.41% slumped 1.15% to 385.37 as banks including BNP Paribas BNP, -2.61% and Credit Suisse CSGN, -3.19% declined.
