A leader within the Eaton Fire recovery efforts said the lack of funding is the biggest challenge impacting fire victims after President Donald that targets a different aspect of the rebuilding process: permits. The executive order, “Addressing State and Local Failures to Rebuild Los Angeles After Wildfire Disasters,” looks to preempt state or local permitting processes that have hindered “the timely use” of federal funds by homeowners or businesses rebuilding. The order, signed on Jan. 23, also proposes having builders “self-certify” their compliance with various state and local “health and safety standards.” The Trump administration said in the order that while the federal government has approved individual relief to support fire victims' recovery, homeowners and businesses haven't been able to use these funds due to the permit process and “administrative delays” at the local and state level.
