If you've ever heard of holacracy, your reaction might have been skeptical, similar to mine, when I first learned about it from my dear friend, the late Tony Hsieh of Zappos. Holacracy is the principle of self-management and self-directed teams. For decades now with the flattening of organizational structures, it has been more and more difficult for managers to be effective coaches of their teams. Managers may not even have adequate visibility into the day-to-day work of the people they lead. Who does have that visibility? The team members who are working together, independent of org charts. It's the people working alongside us every day who see our efforts, challenges, and successes. They're in a prime position to offer relevant, timely feedback – and we need to leverage this abundant yet virtually untapped resource and insight. Tony was well-known for his significant evangelization of this kind of workforce empowerment, which formed the basis of his book "Delivering Happiness." W
