Nasdaq, S&P, Dow whipsaw in choppy trade after Powell notes lack of progress on inflation [Seeking Alpha]

Meanwhile, Treasury yields extended their climb on a continued bond sell-off. Powell's comments underscored how Wall Street has sharply revised its interest rate cut expectations over the last two weeks. The three major averages had been slightly higher before Powell's remarks, and then moved sharply lower in the immediate reaction to the Fed chair's comments. They have since seesawed. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ( ) was now flat at 15,885.77 points in afternoon trade, while the S&P 500 ( SP500 ) was down 0.06% to 5,058.57 points. The blue-chip Dow ( ) was clinging onto gains of 0.32% at 37,856.86 points. Of the 11 S&P sectors, nine were in the red. Powell's remarks came in a moderated discussion with Tiff Macklem, Governor of the Bank of Canada, at an event in Washington, D.C. Earlier, ahead of Powell, Fed Governor Philip Jefferson had cautioned that an uncertain inflation outlook could prompt the central bank to keep rates higher for longer. The benchmark S&P ( SP500
