tieback to Norway's newest Barents Sea oil hub less than a year after it started production. The project, estimated to hold 46 million barrels of recoverable oil, is scheduled for start-up in the fourth quarter of 2028. The companies say the rapid timeline is enabled by standardized subsea and well designs developed for Johan Castberg, allowing new resources in the same licence area to be replicated and tied back quickly. Isflak, discovered in 2021, will be developed via two wells in a new subsea template linked to existing infrastructure. Johan Castberg, which came onstream in March 2025, is currently producing around 220,000 barrels per day. The field, based on the Skrugard, Havis, and Drivis discoveries, contains 450–650 million barrels of recoverable reserves. Equinor believes that number could grow substantially, citing upside potential of 250–550 million barrels through additional drilling and nearby prospects. Six new improved-oil-recovery wells are already being planned.
