UPDATE 2-Embraer workers approve plan keep main Brazil plant open with pay cuts (Adds health concerns from union, response from Embraer) By Marcelo Rochabrun SAO PAULO, April 16 (Reuters) - Planemaker Embraer and the union representing workers at its Brazilian plant said on Thursday they had approved a plan to keep the factory open with a fraction of its employees while furloughing the rest at reduced salaries. Like other large manufacturers in Latin America’s largest economy and beyond, Embraer has curtailed operations because of coronavirus-linked social distancing protocols and related fears that have slashed demand for travel and new aircraft. Leadership of the metalworkers union in Sao Jose dos Campos, where Embraer’s plant is located, had opposed both measures, but workers overwhelmingly approved them, with 92% voting in favor.
