Hundreds of thousands of passengers have seen their travel plans disrupted in the blink of an eye as the US-Israel war on Iran closes major airspace corridors and suspends operations at some of the world's busiest hubs. Airspace across Israel, Syria, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain has been shut, with severe restrictions over the United Arab Emirates. Airports in Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi, which together handle around half a million passengers a day and serve as major links between Europe, Asia and Australia, have been heavily affected. According to flight tracking service FlightAware, 7,133 flights had been cancelled before noon on Wednesday. Over 15,000 were cancelled on Tuesday and 19,291 on Monday, which shows the scale of disruption, described by industry figures as the worst since the pandemic.
