ETY employs a partial overwrite strategy, targeting ~50% notional value on laddered S&P 500 index call options to balance income and upside participation. While ETY underperformed the S&P 500 during strong bull runs, it outperformed the CBOE S&P 500 BuyWrite Index and matched newer call-writing ETFs on NAV returns. ETY's concentrated portfolio and CEF structure enable potential outperformance through discount/premium dynamics, though that can bring added volatility.
