Evofem Biosciences raises $80m for new hormone-free contraceptive | Financial Times April 11, 2019 Print this page Evofem Biosciences is raising $80m as it tries to secure regulatory approval for the first innovative form of contraceptive for almost two decades, a hormone-free alternative to the pill. The California-based biotech company hopes to launch Amphora, an on-demand product used just before sex, in 2020 — and is conducting trials to determine whether it could also prevent the sexually transmitted infection PDL Biopharma, a Nasdaq-listed investment firm, will lead the round, buying $60m of newly issued stock in the publicly traded Evofem at $4.50, about $1 a share more than the closing price on Wednesday.
