Unlike invasive and costly screening methods used to detect esophageal adenocarcinoma, the Oncoguard Esophagus test involves a string to deliver a swallowable capsule. The capsule's outer covering dissolves within the gastrointestinal tract, revealing a sponge collection device. The company said the trial indicated a 100% sensitivity (zero false positives) for Oncoguard in detecting esophageal adenocarcinoma and its precancerous lesion, Barrett's esophagus, with high-grade dysplasia. The trial enrolled 352 participants in the algorithm training set, and 125 in the test set, and its data was published in a peer-reviewed medical journal. Exact Sciences ( EXAS ) added that patients tolerated the sample collection method well, which, it said, indicated suitability for use in doctors' offices.
