April Auto Sales Show The Industry Still Catching Up With Truck Demand Forecasters expect April auto sales to be roughly flat to down slightly, continuing the trend where truck sales outnumber car sales more than 2-to-1. That cuts both ways for Ford Motor Co. General Motors Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Trucks are crushing cars in U.S. auto sales. Getty Trucks are more popular and on average more profitable Edmunds But in the short run kicking cars to the curb is costing the domestics some volume and creating an opportunity for import passenger-car brands. Automakers in the U.S. market are due to report April sales on May 1, according to AutoData Edmunds predicted April sales of about 1.4 million new cars and trucks, based on online shopping data. That would be an increase of 0.3% from a year ago. TrueCar Inc. ALG Year to date through the first quarter, U.S. auto sales were just under 4 million cars and trucks combined, down 3.2% from a year ago, according to the Automotive News Jim Henry
