Back in 2022 when Ford launched the F-150 Lightning electric pickup, one of the features that got people excited was the ability to use the truck's battery as a whole home power backup in the event of a power outage. With the upcoming launch of the first consumer variant of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, General Motors has made a similar package available for customers to order. The GM Energy vehicle-to-home (V2H) bundle is the first of multiple consumer products that will be offered through the automaker's energy business unit. The basic concept of the bundle is similar to the Ford Intelligent Backup Power kit. The Ford system consists of the 19.2-kW Charge Station Pro that enables bidirectional power flow between the truck and the home electrical circuits and a smart inverter. The inverter detects when power to the home is interrupted and includes a transfer switch to disconnect external power and draw from the vehicle battery.
