Over 1,500 workers at the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Kentucky will be laid off starting in February. The layoffs follow Ford's decision to repurpose the plant from making electric vehicle batteries to producing battery energy storage systems. This change comes after Ford and its South Korean partner, SK On, ended their joint venture, with Ford taking over the plant. Ford plans to hire 2,100 workers when the repurposed plant becomes operational within 18 months. Come February, more than 1,500 workers at the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky, will be out of a job. The timeline for those 1,514 terminations was outlined in a Dec. 15 letter from company leadership, as required by the U.S. Department of Labor's , which requires advance notice of certain plant closures and mass layoffs.
