Texas is holding its ground among the nation's best as some of the state's notable regions maintain top positions in national rankings. The Milken Institute's 2026 Best-Performing Cities report highlights Texas metros Midland and Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos as top performers nationally in job growth, wages and tech industry expansion. The report, released earlier this year, evaluated 411 U.S. metropolitan areas using 13 metrics that measure labor market performance, high-tech industry growth and access to economic opportunities.
