Stocks fell Thursday, the last day of April, as traders asssed another round of dismal economic data along with the latt batch of major tech earnings.Load ErrorThe Dow was down 00 points, or 0.8%, while the S&P 500 slid 0.6% and the Nasdaq slipped 0.5%.The Labor Departmt said .8 million more Americans filed for unemploymt befits last week, bringing the six-week total to more than 0 million. U.S. consumer spding also dropped 7.5% in March on a year-over-year basis.The sharp rise in jobls claims and the precipitous drop in consumer spding come as busins are forced to shut down and consumers stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic.Stocks were also under prsure after the European Ctral Bank said it was prepared to increase its emergcy asset purchase program. Some traders were hoping the ECB would announce an increase Thursday.Wall Street came into Thursday’s ssion on pace for one of its bt monthly performanc in decad.
