standalone trucking business is aiming for a 12% operating margin as it gets ready to become its own company.FedEx Freight, which will split up on June 1, is expected to make around $8.7 billion in sales and $1.1 billion in adjusted operating profits this year, according to comments made by incoming CEO John Smith at the unit's maiden investor day.The company, which specializes in less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping, also predicted that its operating profit would expand by 10% to 12% a year over the next few years, while its sales would climb by 4% to 6%. Companies like XPO, Saia, and Old Dominion Freight Line compete with this part of the business.Analysts have been saying for a long time that FedEx Freight's worth wasn't fully reflected in the larger FedEx structure.
