At 7:01 AM on October 29, the company released its financial results for the 3 quarter. A couple hours later, all hell broke loose. Numbers-wise, it could have seemed uneventful. Year-to-date, sales were up 5% (vs the same period in 2024). Operating income was up 7.5%, and net income gained 22%. The company reported $2.04 in adjusted earnings per share for the quarter, and $6.65 adjusted EPS for the first 3 quarters, an increase of 5.7% compared to the first nine months of 2024. But the company's Q3 EPS fell 61 cents short of Wall Street's consensus estimate of $2.65 per share, and the ever-efficient market exacted swift retribution. Fiserv's stock plunged 43% at the opening bell, and continued down on extremely heavy volume over the next week, wiping out half the company's market value.
