In just the first two months of 2026, employers reported that nearly 4,000 jobs could be lost from the state this year, a 106% increase from the same time period one year earlier In March, financial services company Fiserv Solutions led in layoffs with 118 positions set to be cut at its Berkeley Heights location. The Fiserv layoffs are scheduled to take place through May 31, according to a WARN notice filed in March with the state. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60-day advance notice of mass layoffs and plant closings. JPMorgan Chase filed the largest layoff notice in March, affecting 134 employees at its Jersey City location, effective June 20. East Hanover-based Novartis plans to eliminate 114 positions between June 26 and Nov. 27. UBS said in March it will cut 103 positions at its Weehawken facility between June 22 and June 24.
