First Republic Bank (ticker: FRC) rose 4.6%, PacWest Bancorp (PACW) climbed 1.4%, and Western Alliance Bancorp (WAL) rose 1% in U.S. premarket trading. Over in Europe, UBS was up 1.4% in Zurich trading. After getting hit hard on Friday, Deutsche Bank shares bounced back on Monday and were little changed in Frankfurt early Tuesday. The announcement that First Citizens Bancshares has bought up much of SVB appears to have settled nerves. Investors and depositors have been worried that troubles at any large institution could spread to others, and have been selling shares and withdrawing deposits at any lenders that might possibly be vulnerable. First Citizens made the most dramatic leap on Monday, climbing more than 50% on the day. “A relief ripple is helping stocks make some gains amid hopes that the volatility, which has wracked the banking sector, has eased off,” said Susannah Streeter, head of money and markets at Hargreaves Lansdown.
