Then Grubb mentioned a wrinkle to the overall quarterback battle between Ty Simpson Austin Mack and Keelon Russell "All the guys are getting ones, twos and threes with the exception of Ty," Grubb said. "He's the only guy that's not taking any three reps. Really, it's been status quo, but today, everybody got a couple racks with the ones. Ty took a couple with the twos. We're still moving them around. The guys know that. There's a pretty clean picture moving forward throughout the week." When Alabama was on the practice field Aug. 5, the quarterbacks worked in pairs as they worked on short route concepts with the tight ends. Simpson took reps with Mack. Then Mack returned for another set of reps with Russell. After the first week of fall camp, Grubb said the quarterback room has "grown a ton," highlighting Russell and Mack's ability to play through "a couple bumps early on."
