Ford, which als o owns Lincoln, is recalling 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), as well as 2020-2024 Ford Escape PHEV vehicles, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notice published on Friday, Nov. 14. The vehicles impacted by the recall contain 2½-liter PHEV engines and high-voltage battery cells. The high-voltage battery cells may experience internal short-circuiting, causing the vehicle's propulsion system to shut down, according to Ford. “Loss of motive power increases the risk of crash and injury,” Ford said in its notice. “In the event of a high voltage battery cell internal short circuit, the customer may also experience battery thermal venting potentially resulting in a vehicle fire, increasing the risk of injury.” Battery thermal venting is a safety component that releases built-up pressure from a battery cell to prevent rupture, fire or a possible explosion, according to Large Power , a custom battery manufactur
