(Jim Franco/Times Union) SCHENECTADY - Local investments by GE Vernova, the energy infrastructure spinoff of General Electric Co., have sparked a surge of high-tech machinery exports through the Port of Albany, according to a new report by the Center for Economic Growth in Colonie. The report, written by James Schlett, CEG's director of research and communications, found that Albany-area "port exports" of high-tech machinery totaled $134.3 million in 2025. "When taking inflation into account, that marked an annual increase of 135.4 percent and the highest export value for this commodity category since 2019," Schlett wrote in the recently released study, which used trade data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
