starting this June, the company confirmed to the Detroit Free Press, in response to an uptick in large pickup truck demand. GM said March 30 that there are no plans to increase headcount at the plant that produces the heavy duty Chevrolet Silverado and heavy duty GMC Sierra pickups, the 2500 and 3500 versions. The plant employs about 4,200 hourly workers, according to GM. The Detroit Free Press reached out to UAW 598, the local that represents workers at Flint Assembly, but no one was immediately available for comment. Flint Assembly, GM's longest-running North American assembly plant since 1947, currently runs three shifts across five days a week. Once production increases, the plant will operate six days a week among three overtime shifts. GM also produces Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickups at its Oshawa Assembly plant.
