Company spokesman Kevin Kelly said in an email to the Detroit Free Press that GM intends to use the site to support the plant's production of the gasoline-powered Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickups scheduled to begin in 2027. The Detroit automaker purchased the plant on March 26, according to documents obtained by the Detroit Free Press from the Oakland County Register of Deeds, after it triggered an option agreement with developer Schostak Brothers & Company Inc. About 400 new jobs will be created once the site is up and running, GM confirmed, less than half than initially anticipated when the plant was initially proposed. The plant's opening will coincide with the start of production at Orion. GM announced in April 2023 that once up and running, the value-added assembly plant would create about 1,000 new jobs there.
