The small American market for all-electric trucks got even smaller last year amid shifting regulatory environment under President Donald Trump. The shared architecture among GM's large electric vehicle lineup makes it difficult to achieve significant cost savings by cutting production of just one vehicle. There are no specific sales objectives tethered to the truck's longevity, and no plans to cut production at this time, according to GM. Will the bell that tolled for the battery-exclusive Ford Lightning and Ram 1500 REV also ring for the Chevrolet Silverado EV and its siblings? High production costs and lower-than-expected consumer demand have the number of full-size American-made electric pickups on the road dwindling. Of the Detroit Three, the Silverado EV sits alongside the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Hummer EV pickup, all from General Motors, as the few battery electric vehicles remaining in the full-size half-ton pickup truck category.
