In recent quarters, DSX has built a substantial stake in larger peer Genco Shipping & Trading and offered to acquire the remainder of the company for $23.50 per share. As Genco Shipping & Trading's board has been reluctant to engage with Diana Shipping, a proxy fight appears inevitable. However, even if Diana Shipping succeeds, the transaction is not likely to result in substantially increased shareholder capital returns or material changes to the company's chartering approach. With the existing discount to net asset value ("NAV") likely to persist, I am downgrading DSX common shares from Buy to Hold.
