Related news Google-parent Alphabet ( GOOGL ) reported mixed first-quarter earnings as the coronavirus emergency slowed digital advertising growth. But Google stock popped early Wednesday as analysts turned more optimistic about the current June quarter. Many analysts expect Google's June quarter to be the bottom amid the global coronavirus lockdown. In addition, the June quarter downturn may not be as bad as feared, RBC Capital analyst Mark Mahaney said in a report to clients. While Google has expanded into cloud computing and consumer hardware, digital advertising is still the lion's share of revenue. In the first quarter, overall advertising rose 10% to $33.76 billion. In the June quarter, Mahaney estimates that ad revenue will fall about 9%. He added that management commentary on its earnings call implies "a less-worse recovery in May and June and is better than the market's 10% to 20% fear" for an advertising decline.
