Launched in 2020, Solana is a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain network. It depends on participants locking up their SOL tokens to run the network securely. The network has faced a sustained attack over the past week that peaked near 6 terabits per second, making it the fourth-largest DDoS attack against any distributed system. A denial-of-service attack involves the perpetrator flooding a network with superfluous requests to overload it so that it cannot offer services to genuine users. In short, the goal of the attack is to deny the network's services to the users for the long or short term. In a distributed DoS attack, the perpetrator targets the network from different sources.
