Analysts Craig Irwin said the firm's channel checks last week indicate that student transportation services company Zum initiated an RFP to purchase 2,500 EV school buses over an expected timeline of five years. "This marks the largest planned EVSB purchase to date and deliveries likely reach into 2029," he noted. Irwin said the firm also understands that there are other large EV school bus RFPs in the market, each several hundred units in size, suggesting substantial support from third-party operators. Irwin thinks the rate of deliveries are likely to be gated by charging infrastructure installs. Privately-owned Zum was noted to be an emerging student transportation provider, with substantial financial backing. Zum manages and operates student transportation in Massachusetts, Maryland, California, Washington, Texas, Illinois, and Tennessee.
