Domino's U.S.-owned stores miss comparable sales estimates | Reuters 3 Min Read Oct 16 (Reuters) - Domino’s Pizza Inc reported a smaller-than-expected increase in quarter1ly same-store sales at company-owned stores in the United States on Tuesday, underscoring intensifying competition from Pizza Hut and food delivery upstarts in an overcrowded market. Same-store sales at Domino’s company-owned U.S. outlets rose 4.9 percent, while franchises posted a 6.4 percent growth, both below Wall Street expectations. Analysts on average expected same-store sales to rise 5.82 percent at company-owned U.S. stores and 6.42 percent at franchise stores, according to I/B/E/S data from Refinitiv. The dominance of Domino’s and other national pizza chains like Papa John’s and Yum Brands’ Pizza Hut is being chipped away by third-party food delivery services such as GrubHub Inc, Uber Technologies’ UberEats and DoorDash.
