Hain Celestial ( HAIN ) announced this week that it is divesting its North America snacks business to improve on the profitability of its portfolio and refocus capital on higher-margin core categories while reducing leverage. The company is selling the unit to Quick Insights The divestiture will remove a low-margin unit, improving overall profit margins as Hain refocuses on higher-margin core categories. Hain plans to use the proceeds primarily to pay down debt and reinvest in higher-margin, higher-growth platforms like tea, yogurt, baby and kids' food, and culinary oils. Analysts view the divestiture positively for short-term debt reduction, but note Hain has more work ahead, and see potential for further portfolio changes or a sale of the company.
