The red metal has notched a series of all-time highs in an end-of-year surge, rallying over 40% on the London Metal Exchange this year. That makes it the best performer among six industrial metals on the bourse. Traders have been rushing to ship copper to the US in anticipation of potential tariffs, tightening the market in the rest of the world. A weaker US dollar, which makes commodities less costly for buyers in other currencies, and strong rallies in gold and silver have also helped boost the industrial metal's appeal. The amount of gold needed to buy a ton of copper has slumped to a record low, and the the drivers behind bullion's rally this year will propel copper in 2026, China Securities Co. analysts led by Zhou Junzhi wrote in a note.
