The Japanese carmaker's preliminary profit figure of ¥530 billion ($3.4 billion) fell short of the ¥620 billion predicted by the company and by analysts. The company's shares dropped as much as 3.6% in early trading in Tokyo on Monday, the most since March 26 on an intraday basis. The full-year warning follows another miss in February when third-quarter profit came in below estimates. The manufacturer cited “temporary logistics disruption and intensifying competition” and lowered its vehicle sales forecast to 3.55 million units at the time. Now, Nissan says it expects to sell 3.44 million units. That compares with around 5 million as little as five years ago, with an aging lineup, lack of hybrid options in North America and intensifying competition in China contributing to the decline.
