The Opportunity Hershey is an appealing investment in the confectionery industry due to its strong financials and EPS growth. The company expects a total EPS growth for the year between ~14% - 16% and a reduction of the effective tax rate to 19% which will translate into a higher EPS. The company is expanding their presence to other food products such as the cheese puff market with the acquisition of Pirate Brands for $420 million in October 2018. Management remains open to other acquisitions in the candy and snack food industry and is pursuing multiple growth strategies in digitalization (Smart Phone Applications) and product creation. The company also returns a lot of capital to shareholders in the form of a 2.7% dividend yield and $200 million in buybacks over the last year.
