Health insurer Humana's third-quarter profit beats expectations | Reuters 2 Min Read (Reuters) - Humana Inc ( HUM.N ) reported third-quarter profit that beat Wall Street estimates on Wednesday and the U.S. health insurer raised its full-year profit forecast, helped by strong demand for health plans in its core Medicare Advantage business for people who are older than 65 or with disabilities. Unlike rivals Aetna Inc ( AET.N ) and Cigna Corp ( CI.N ), Humana has prioritized smaller deals, such as buying health care services companies that provide hospice service and home healthcare. Humana’s deal to be purchased by Aetna Inc ( AET.N ) two years ago failed to pass antitrust scrutiny. The company raised its adjusted earnings per share forecast for 2018 to $14.40 per share, from a prior estimate of about $14.15 per share. The company’s adjusted consolidated benefit ratio, the percentage of premiums spent on claims, improved to 82 percent in the quarter from 82.4 percent last year.
