Thesis IDT Corporation ( IDT ) is a declining business as the company is selling a service that can be acquired for free provided one has an internet (WiFi or otherwise) connection. Recently, the company reported its best quarter in years. However, most of the resulting cash flow was working capital related. The underlying business has not improved at all, and margins continue to compress. The company has a negative free cash flow of $14m per year while liquidity stands at roughly $79m. Time is running out for the company. Misguided interpretations of the latest quarter have increased expectations severely, combined with deteriorating fundamentals, the shares are setting up to be a convincing short. Business overview and introduction IDT Corporation’s ( IDT ) stock was put on my short watch list in August when the stock was one of the largest YTD decliners. Before coming around to investigating IDT, I noticed it had shot up over 40% intraday after earnings in October.
