Nifty, Sensex rattled by oil plunge as coronavirus takes toll BENGALURU (Reuters) - Indian shares fell nearly 3% on Tuesday, as a historic overnight plunge in U.S. crude oil to below zero highlighted the economic damage caused by the coronavirus-led lockdowns. The NSE Nifty 50 index fell 2.66% to 9,015.65 by 0455 GMT, while the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex dropped 2.73% to 30,782.84. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan lost 2%, as did the Nikkei, EuroSTOXX 50 futures and FTSE futures. E-mini futures for the S&P 500 fell 0.5%. West Texas Intermediate futures bounced back into positive territory on Tuesday, but a $39 rise still left the price for May delivery at $1.38 per barrel, as a storage squeeze and collapsing fuel demand due to the lockdowns crushed prices.
