Intel CPU shortage likely to be felt until early next year, says JPM J.P. Morgan analyst Gokul Hariharan wrote Friday that he expects the impact of Intel Corp.'s CPU shortage to be felt until the first half of 2019 and lead to 5% to 7% downside in PC shipments in the fourth quarter."Our conversations with PC vendors indicate that the shortage, which started in small magnitude in 3Q, has been progressively worsening and is likely to have the maximum impact in 4Q18," he said. "We expect this to affect both notebook and desktop PCs and likely to have a higher impact on commercial and high-end consumer PCs, where using AMD [s; amd] or older Intel family of CPUs as substitutes are more difficult." Intel said in an email statement to MarketWatch: "We will have supply to meet our announced, full-year revenue outlook and we're working closely with our customers and factories to manage any additional upside." Intel shares are down 0.2% in Friday trading, while Advanced Micro Devices Inc. stock
