Like Norwegian pop band A-ha's only real hit song “Take on Me,” many car nuts call the Isuzu 117 Coupé a one-hit wonder too. Whatever you call it, this two-door has cemented itself in Japan's automotive history as one of the country's most beautifully designed cars ever. When Isuzu decided it needed a halo car in the mid-1960s, it didn't turn to its own styling studio. Instead, the conservative truck maker sent a brief to Turin, to a young Italian designer who was just starting to make a name for himself. His name? Giorgetto Giugiaro at Carrozzeria Ghia. Out of that unlikely partnership came one of Japan's most elegant GTs, the Isuzu 117 Coupé (aka ‘117' from here on).
