could benefit from emerging strategic opportunities as the industry continues to consolidate. Citi analyst John Godyn wrote that “we see upside risks emerging at JBLU, particularly in the context of a consolidating industry and upgrade the stock.” The analyst added: “There are very few airlines left for which considering strategic optionality is even a possibility – it's a short list that JBLU is on.” Godyn believes the recent merger activity underscores shifting industry dynamics. He noted that “ALGT and SNCY have announced a merger, which has yet to close,” and highlighted that Spirit Airlines, which is in bankruptcy, “is analyzing all possibilities.” He also pointed to Spirit's merger history, saying, “ULCC, as a matter of history, attempted to merge with Spirit Airlines.” Citi believes the regulatory landscape may be more accommodating under the current U.S. administration.
