Winter 2025 delivered a severe storm into the Northeast travel corridor snow, ice, high winds and congested airspace across New York, Boston, and surrounding hubs during the peak holiday travel window. Severe weather alone does not typically break airlines. It exposes where systems are already strained. The difference between carriers in that storm was stark. Over the core disruption period in late December, JetBlue ( NASDAQ:JBLU ) canceled approximately 22% of its scheduled flights, a far higher rate than its major competitors operating in the same region. By contrast, Delta Air Lines ( NYSE:DAL ) managed cancellations in the mid-single digits (roughly 57%) through active schedule reduction and repositioning, while United Airlines ( NASDAQ:UAL ), also busy at its hub airports, stayed near a 58% cancellation rate.
